This is what I am going to send in an e-mail to the folks out of town.

Workshop details

Some hopefully useful information about the workshop this weekend.

Getting to the workshop
Important Note: The address for the Upjohn Institute where the workshop is being held is 300 S. Westnedge but the parking lot is off of Lovell just west of Westnedge.

Downtown Kalamazoo has many one way streets so be sure to pay attention to that if you are plotting your course manually by map.  If you are coming from the east I recommend getting off at exit 81 off I-94.  Sometimes people recommend exit 76 (Westnedge) since it can be simpler though longer but the road is under construction.  From the west it is important to note that you cannot get from I-94 eastbound to 131 northbound which is probably the route that Google maps (and others) would recommend.  You either need to get off the exit before (9th street) or the exit after (Oakland).  If anyone need help with directions let me know.

Cell Phone: In case you really get lost my cell number is 1-269-290-4579

Schedule
The current schedule is as follows though Jennie can make changes as she sees fit.

Friday 6-9
6-7 lecture
7-9 group A plays, group B has simul with Jennie

Saturday and Sunday 9-6
9-10 lecture
10-11:15 group B plays, group A reviews
11:15-12:30 group A plays, Group B reviews
12:30-1:30 Lunch
1:30-2:45 group B plays, group A reviews
2:45-4:00 group A plays, Group B reviews
4-6 simul

Information about the location.
The Upjohn Institute is where I work so please respect the space, I would like to keep my job :) .  We will not be providing any food and there are no vending machines so you will need to bring your own snacks.  There is a refrigerator, a microwave, and on the main floor an oven that is available.  There also is a small locker room with a shower for anyone who wants to take a lunchtime jog.

The seminar room which we will be using is just a few years old and has some cool technology.  We will be using a computer hookup to a large projection screen for the lectures and game reviews so it is important to have a palm or a computer to record your games.  The only demonstration board I have is homemade and Jennie has stated a strong preference to doing everything on the computer.

I am also responsible for clean up so please try not to be too messy.

Lunch
We are just a couple blocks from downtown Kalamazoo so I would recommend if the weather is good to take a walk and eat there, at least on Saturday (I have to find out what is open on Sunday).  A list of downtown restaurants can be found here http://central-city.net/dining.php.  We also have several places that can deliver.

Other info
If you have a board please bring it.  Our club has a few extra boards but not enough for everyone for the group simuls.

Awesome.  I linked to this from the workshop page and edited your post to fix the URL.  I really have to fix the urlizer.

Since you guys are planning on recording games electronically I'd be happy to bring in my Palm & charger to club for someone to borrow if you'd like. I never really use it, so it's not a "make sure it's handled with kid gloves" issue.

Oh, right.  It'd be super smart to record games...

... is kifu enough?

>... is  kifu enough?

Its better than nothing but not ideal.  First is that it does have to be shown on the computer so unless you can transcribe the game from kifu to electronic before the review we would have you at the computer entering the moves and Jennie at the same computer trying to show variations, might be a bit clumsy and would take away the option of her looking ahead a few moves before commenting (James Kerwin used this very well in Ann Arbor).  The other issue is I have been to many workshops and the people who use kifu instead of a palm or computer often waste at least half their review time trying to find their moves.  It's surprisingly hard to find your moves after the opening and remembering what move you are on especially when you have a bunch of people staring at you.

The good news is that only one person has to record the game (though I did see a case once when the person who didn't record the game claimed the person who did recorded it wrong.  Argued so strongly that the review was stopped).

I guess I could bring one of my laptops...

Probably better than kifu.

I wish I'd have ordered a crappy palm pilot about a month ago...

Looks like they're only $50 or $100.

One of the out-of-towners inquired whether wireless internet would be available.  I asked my IT buddy and he is going to set us up for that in case people need access to the internet for something.
